Again with the Adaptive Technology - DAISY

DAISY: Digital Accessible Information SYstem. "Access" is the euphemism for making files accessible to the disabled (vision-, hearing-, cognitively-impaired). It's a NISO standard and the DAISY consortium is the managing body.

DAISY handles text, audio, images - and synchronizes amongst the three, and navigates amongst them as well.

For readers with textual disabilities, structure is more important than any other quality in a document. XML lends itself well to this.

Here's a good fact: The UN has declared that universal access to information is a fundamental human right - and Obama's admin will be signing this convention soon. Loving that.

But DAISY can be extended - it supports .epub, it supports downloadable audio. It's not just about disability access anymore.
